Since the 1990s, transhumance in Spain has declined by 80%. The critical situation of wool, the lack of social recognition in the livestock sector, and the limited incorporation of new generations into pastoralism are some of the causes of its significant decline, despite the numerous benefits that its practice brings.

Wool is much more than a quality material. It is a 100% natural, renewable, and biodegradable resource, qualities that position it as a much more sustainable option compared to the synthetic fibers that dominate the market today. This unique fiber regulates temperature, is hypoallergenic, flame-resistant, absorbs moisture, and is at the same time durable and adaptable, capable of maintaining its quality for decades.

We are the fourth generation of wool artisans and descendants of former wool weavers (the trade of selecting and preparing wool for weaving) and weavers. Our family project is the only one in the country and one of the few worldwide that still maintains all the wool crafts in the same town.

For over 100 years, our family has carried out the crafts of selecting, washing, carding, spinning, and weaving wool on artisanal wooden looms.

We work directly with national producers and have the entire wool processing process, from sheep to yarn, under one roof. At Mota del Cuervo, we preserve these crafts and promote wool traceability, with the goal of achieving social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

Spain's connection with wool dates back to ancient times, when sheep farming and wool production became key economic activities. Particularly during the 12th and 13th centuries, the wool trade became a significant source of wealth for Spain. Spanish wool, known for its high quality and variety of colors, was in demand throughout Europe. It was considered Spain's White Gold.
